INGREDIENTS
4 cups white flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 tablespoon sugar
1 cup of raisins or currants
1 tablespoon caraway seeds
2 cups buttermilk

When I don't have buttermilk handy, I use the next best thing: I add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar to 2 cups of fresh or sour milk.
METHOD
Combine dry ingredients.
Add fruit and seeds.
Stir in milk.
Turn dough on floured board.
Knead lightly.
Shape into 2 loaves.
Cut a cross on each loaf.
Bake in preheated oven for 50 minutes at 375oF.
