Peter has been a full time musician since the
early 1990's. Having played with several Irish bands in Toronto at that
time, he then moved to Europe for a year and soon found himself touring
with a local Irish band. Landing in Montreal in 1997 he quickly
developed a reputation as a savvy sideman, equally comfortable with
Irish, Scottish and Québecois traditional music.
Over the years he has organized, hosted or co-hosted 100's of sessions, most often with MacFinn (band) partner, Belfast Andi. Peter toured in France (2003, 2004), and played locally, with Québecois dance troops: Les Mutins de Longueuil and Les Pieds Legers des Laval. Currently he performs regularly with the following groups: Moïra www.moira-music.com , Rapetipetam http://www.danse.qc.ca/Rapetipetam.html , Duo Garand-Senn www.garand-senn.com , He often sits in as sideman for many local bands and soloists. Notably in 2003-2004 he performed concerts with Jerry Holland, Tommy Peoples, Alasdair Fraser / Natalie Haas, Laura Risk and Laura Cortese. Peter has recorded on 8 albums (and several CD demos) between 1999 and 2004 (see websites for discography), Moïra being his most cherished project. Besides performing, and teaching at Siamsa, Peter is also quite active in promoting traditional music culture, in various roles: Associate Artistic Director for la Grande Rencontre Festival (2004 and 2005), advisor and technical support for le Festival Celtique-Acadien-Cajun de Montréal (2004 and 2005), member of the organizing and reception committee for Montreal 2005 North American Folk Alliance / Strictly Mundial, musical co-ordinator for la Grande Orchestre Traditionnelle de Montréal, Siamsa board member. Peter teaches guitar in both standard tuning and open tuning ( DADGAD ) as well as coaching Ensemble and Performance here at Siamsa.
